World Cyber Games, the leader in international video game competitions and festivals, held the opening press conference and spectacular opening ceremony for the WCG 2009 Grand Final in Chengdu China on Nov 11th.
The Opening Press Conference was held in Pride International Convention Center with 310 journalists from 40 countries and Opening Ceremony was held in the New International Convention & Exposition Center Century City in Chengdu, with about 600.players from 65 countries and spectators.
At the WCG 2009 Grand Final Opening Ceremony the representative of about 600 players from 65 countries showed in the main stage with their flag-waving performance. After the flag-waving performance, the Fair Play Oath was read by Chinese famous Warcraft III players Sky (Li Xiaofeng) and Thomas Clarke, the head referee of Guitar Hero from New Zealand. The Chinese version of WCG theme song – ‘Beyond the game' also appeared before the spectators for the first time by Chinese group Boy Band.
After the official opening ceremony, Sky (Li Xiofeng, China) and Marc Forster(Germany) had a opening match. Marc Forster won the game and gave a good start sign to German National Team members and fans.
Hyoung-seok Kim, CEO of World Cyber Games Inc., the global organizer of the World Cyber Games,said ''This year's Grand Final marks the first time the WCG has selected China for its biggest event of the year. WCG has made significant growth and next year we celebrate our 10th anniversary. In such a critical momentum, I am proud to hold the WCG 2009 Grand Final in Chengdu. The WCG 2009 Grand Final will take place in New International Convention & Exposition Center Chengdu Century City in Chengdu, China from November 11 to 15.
